Catch Flights & Degrees: Preparing Youth for a Global Future

At YBS Kids, we are committed to creating intentional, impactful programs that expand young minds and prepare them for real-world success. One of our latest workshops, Catch Flights & Degrees, did exactly that—empowering students to explore the world beyond their comfort zones and dream big about international education opportunities.

This workshop was designed to break down the myths and fears surrounding studying abroad. We believe that Black youth deserve global experiences, and we’re here to provide the tools and encouragement to make those opportunities feel accessible and achievable.

Real-World Preparation Through Interactive Learning

Each student was given a travel destination and challenged to explore:

• Where they would live while abroad

• How they would commute between campus and their temporary home

• Where they would shop for everyday essentials

• And how to navigate cultural differences and budgets

These hands-on activities helped our youth begin to think critically and independently—building life skills that extend far beyond travel planning. We also covered important topics like currency exchange, housing options, visa requirements, and navigating unfamiliar environments with confidence.

Why This Matters

Exposure is everything. For many of our students, the idea of studying abroad can feel out of reach—not because they lack the ambition, but because they simply haven’t been shown how to get there. Our job is to change that.

We’re teaching them that what you don’t know should never stop you from exploring the world. With the right knowledge, guidance, and community support, international experiences can be within reach for all students—especially those who have historically been left out of the conversation.
